Grant James McKay is Sydney Water’s Head of Protective Security & Emergency Management, a position he has held for over four years. He has been a security and risk professional for over 40 years, which has given him the opportunity of working throughout the world.
Prior to joining Sydney Water, Grant provided security consulting services in Asia and generalist consulting services to the mining and resources sector in Australia. The bulk of his career however has been in senior roles in commercial aviation during which, for over a decade, he was responsible for the security of Qantas’ operations outside of Australia.
Grant’s career path has been shaped by his preference for work diversity. He has played a senior role in the investigation of political and public sector corruption in NSW, been an officer in a RAAF and, at the very beginning, was in the AFP.
Grant has a degree in science from the UNSW and postgraduate degrees in business administration and strategic studies from other universities. Grant has also been a visiting fellow in the ANU’s faculty of political economy where he lectured on corruption in the developing world.
Grant lives in the Blue Mountains and enjoys bush walking, and the on-going renovation and upkeep of his 19th century house.
