Tom has over 35 years of executive experience in the Security Industry including a two-year secondment to Securicor (later known as G4S). Over the last couple of decades, he has navigated positive business outcomes through some of the most precarious economic and security threat environments.
He was the CEO and a principal shareholder of SNP Security for 20 years, under his leadership SNP expanded into a true national provider, with a focus on Aviation Security, delivering innovation electronic security solutions and being a high touch customer focused business, employing over 4000 people.
An exceptional people leader Tom drives positive, engaged and high performing cultures through people, safety and a sense of belonging.
In 2014 he negotiated the sale to Telstra of 51% of SNP’s electronics business to create SAPIO and continued as CEO in its first year of operation.
In 2018 he led the sale of SNP’s Manpower business to Certis of Singapore a Temasek owned company and remained the Australian head til 2021.
He has been a security industry representative on Federal Government lead reviews into Aviation Security Screening. He spent 10 years as a Board member and the industry representative on the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) responsible for reviewing licencing, standards and training requirements for the Security Industry.
He was an ASIAL (Australian Security Industry Association Ltd) Board Member for over 10 years.
In 2015 he was awarded an Australian Security Medal for Contribution to the Security Industry.
He is a current Director and Board member of SAPIO, is a Joint venture between Telstra and Rexford Holding (previously SNP) to deliver innovative technological security solutions to B2B markets across Australia.
He is a current Director and Board member of AWARE, a non for profit. AWARE’s focus is bridging the gap, providing and installing security equipment at no cost to domestic violence victims who do not meet the relevant government grant criteria.
He has been a Board member of the Australian Security Medals Foundation since 2019.
Tom holds a BA in Economics and a Master’s degree in management.
Tom is also dedicated to many charitable causes. The Smith Family is one of the long-term charities that he has contributed to for over 15 years. Annually attending a gruelling 100 km Smith Family Challenge, he has and continues to raise over $250,000 to ensure all children in Australia have a right to a good education.
